By working together, for the benefit of young patients, architects and physicians develop space and communication concepts that promote a sustainable healing process of the children and adolescents through their emotional positive-forming, sensuous experience.

We developed the space and communication concept “Elise’s Island” for the child and adolescent psychiatry of the “Protestant Queen Elizabeth Herzberge Hospital” in Berlin. ”Elise’s Island” is a new concept of hospital design for the treatment and cure without clinic atmosphere: Out of colours, shapes, materials, light and air, such a place is created with a history, that satisfies medical standards of care equally for children and young people and their emotional needs.

After all, Elise’s Island can do more than that, because it creates community and identity and it has charisma: As a good fairy, Princess Elise enriches the daily routine and promotes the identification of young patients and medical professionals with their clinic. Doctors, parents, media, policy makers and patients, all of them, Elise’s Island provides sustainable, medical and social competence and for that reason the concept ensures an excellent position in the healthcare market.
